How the UK and US Application Systems Differ

UK admissions works differently from anything most US students have done before. UCAS, personal statements, entry requirements, and the post-offer process all follow their own rules, and the deadlines arrive earlier than most families expect.

Every family approaches this differently. Some students want the full framework and a plan they can follow at their own pace. Others want an expert close by for the moments that carry the most weight: the personal statement, choosing the right five universities to submit to, the final UCAS review, the choice between offers. And some want a team managing the process alongside them from the first conversation.

None of these is the wrong choice. The right level of support depends on your student, your family’s comfort with the process, and how much expert involvement you want along the way.

The UK Study Accelerator gives you three ways to move through the process, so you can choose the level of support that fits your family.

WHY THE UK STUDY EXPERT

US-to-UK Admissions Expertise, From Someone Who Knows Both Systems

Jackie Christopher grew up in a lower-middle-class family in Philadelphia, where traveling internationally wasn’t something the family could do regularly. When it came time to consider college, she stepped outside her comfort zone to explore a world beyond Philadelphia.

She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education and Fine Art at Aberystwyth University in Wales, and at 22, completed her master’s degree in Education, Leadership and Management at the University of Roehampton in London. She then spent several years working as a regional manager for UK universities, helping US and international students navigate admissions from the inside.

Today, Jackie’s goal is to be the bridge between students, families, and counselors and UK universities. Over the past 10 years, she and her team have helped 600 students study in the UK through direct partnerships with 150+ universities.

The Promise

Whichever option you choose, the UK Study Accelerator gives you support through a process that works differently from US admissions, guidance from people who know the UK system from the inside, and a way to explore UK degree options that may take less time and cost less than comparable options in the US.

There are more UK university and degree options than many US families realize. Part of the Accelerator’s job is helping you identify the ones that fit your student’s academic profile, goals, and budget, even when the right options aren’t obvious at first.

What Parents and Students Said About the Program

Jackie helped us identify what was realistic, helping our son to research possible schools and form a shortlist he was interested in... our son has offers from two of the best engineering schools in the UK, including his first choice school, a school we had not thought was a realistic option before we started working with Jackie.

Jackie, and her team, helped us successfully navigate the UCAS application with our US qualifications, and gave us individualized guidance and support through both the research and essay portions to match up our daughter's academic profile and provide options that fulfilled her requirements and her dreams.

Three Levels of Support. The Same UK Admissions Expertise.

Whether you choose Course, Advised, or Comprehensive, you start from the same proven foundation. The difference between options isn’t the quality of what you get. It’s how much of the work our team does alongside you.

CHOOSE YOUR LEVEL OF SUPPORT

How Much Help Do You Want With Your UK Applications?

Every student wants a different level of support. Choose the option that fits how you want to move through the process.

ADVISED

Do the work with expert input at key checkpoints.

Move through the process with structure and support at the checkpoints that count most. You get everything in Course, plus a full academic profile review, an expert-reviewed university shortlist, one university list refinement, one personal statement review, one UCAS application review before submission, email support throughout, and 2-3 scheduled Zoom calls.

COMPREHENSIVE

Work directly with our team throughout the process.

Work directly with Jackie and her team from your first conversation all the way through enrollment at your university. Disclaimer: Students applying to Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Law, as well as transfer and graduate (postgraduate) applicants, require a different level of advising and pricing due to the complexity of their application process. Frequently Asked Questions

Which track should I choose if I'm still not sure?
Start with the discovery call. It’s free, and we’ll talk through your student’s academic profile, goals, and how much support your family wants. From there, we can recommend Course, Advised, Comprehensive, or a specialist advising package if your student’s application requires something different. There’s no pressure to choose more support than you need.
As soon as you book, you’ll receive a confirmation email within 60 seconds with all the details for your call. During the call, we’ll review your academic profile together, identify which UK universities would be the best match for your situation, and map out your path to studying abroad. By the end of the call you’ll know whether the program makes sense for you and what it would take to make it happen.

Most US college counselors don’t have deep experience with UK admissions. They’re trained in the Common App and US university systems, not UCAS and UK entry requirements. Our team has lived and worked inside the UK system for over a decade, completed degrees in the UK, and placed over 600 US students in UK universities. We also have direct relationships with admissions offices at over 150 UK universities.

We’ve worked with students across a wide range of academic backgrounds, from high achievers aiming for top-ranked schools to transfer students and non-traditional applicants. Through our university partnership network, we have direct access to admissions officers at over 150 UK universities. If your academic background is unusual or your grades fall slightly short, we can contact them directly to clarify your eligibility or advocate on your behalf.
UK bachelor’s degrees are typically three years in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which can mean one less year of tuition and living expenses . Tuition also varies considerably by institution and course, so the difference depends on the universities you’re comparing.
Yes. The discovery call is a free conversation where we review your academic profile, identify which UK universities would be the best match for your situation, and explain the recommended next steps. If the program isn’t the right fit for you, there’s no cost and no obligation to move forward.
Our process is designed to reduce this risk. We review your academic profile to identify where you have a strong chance of admission, build a university list with reach, match, and fallback options, and refine every part of your application to meet UK standards. Our relationships with over 150 universities also enable us to advocate on your behalf when a case is borderline.
We recommend starting no later than the end of your Junior year. UK application deadlines vary by university and course, and popular courses fill quickly for international students. Some students move from their first conversation with us to an accepted offer in as little as 90 days, though the exact timeline depends on your starting point and the deadlines ahead of you. The earlier you start, the more options you have and the more time we have to put together a strong application.

Yes. Our 90-day post-submission support gives you direct access to our team Monday through Friday to help you interpret offers and understand the difference between conditional and unconditional offers. Your accepted university will walk you through the exact steps for your visa and housing, but if you run into questions along the way, we’re happy to help or point you to the right contact.

Yes, parents are welcome to join discovery calls and stay informed throughout the process. The Personal UK Study Success Portal gives your family one place to track every deadline, see what’s been completed and what’s due next, and access curated UK university information, video courses for each stage of the process, and downloadable resources like our UCAS guide and personal statement templates.

Yes. These applications require additional strategy, admissions test guidance, and interview preparation beyond our standard tracks. Schedule a discovery call and we’ll assess your student’s profile and recommend the right level of support.

Yes. Because of our direct relationships with over 150 UK universities, if something stalls or you run into an issue, whether it’s a delayed decision or paperwork stuck somewhere, we usually have a direct contact in that university’s office we can reach out to on your behalf, rather than you having to work through a general inbox.
