How the UK and US Application Systems DifferÂ
UK admissions works differently from anything most US students have done before. UCAS, personal statements, entry requirements, and the post-offer process all follow their own rules, and the deadlines arrive earlier than most families expect.
Every family approaches this differently. Some students want the full framework and a plan they can follow at their own pace. Others want an expert close by for the moments that carry the most weight: the personal statement, choosing the right five universities to submit to, the final UCAS review, the choice between offers. And some want a team managing the process alongside them from the first conversation.Â
None of these is the wrong choice. The right level of support depends on your student, your family’s comfort with the process, and how much expert involvement you want along the way.
The UK Study Accelerator gives you three ways to move through the process, so you can choose the level of support that fits your family.
US-to-UK Admissions Expertise, From Someone Who Knows Both Systems
Jackie Christopher grew up in a lower-middle-class family in Philadelphia, where traveling internationally wasn’t something the family could do regularly. When it came time to consider college, she stepped outside her comfort zone to explore a world beyond Philadelphia.
She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education and Fine Art at Aberystwyth University in Wales, and at 22, completed her master’s degree in Education, Leadership and Management at the University of Roehampton in London. She then spent several years working as a regional manager for UK universities, helping US and international students navigate admissions from the inside.
Today, Jackie’s goal is to be the bridge between students, families, and counselors and UK universities. Over the past 10 years, she and her team have helped 600 students study in the UK through direct partnerships with 150+ universities.
Whichever option you choose, the UK Study Accelerator gives you support through a process that works differently from US admissions, guidance from people who know the UK system from the inside, and a way to explore UK degree options that may take less time and cost less than comparable options in the US.
There are more UK university and degree options than many US families realize. Part of the Accelerator’s job is helping you identify the ones that fit your student’s academic profile, goals, and budget, even when the right options aren’t obvious at first.
What Parents and Students Said About the Program
Jackie helped us identify what was realistic, helping our son to research possible schools and form a shortlist he was interested in... our son has offers from two of the best engineering schools in the UK, including his first choice school, a school we had not thought was a realistic option before we started working with Jackie.

Jackie, and her team, helped us successfully navigate the UCAS application with our US qualifications, and gave us individualized guidance and support through both the research and essay portions to match up our daughter's academic profile and provide options that fulfilled her requirements and her dreams.

Which Level of UK Admissions Support Fits Your Family?
Choose Course if...
- You're comfortable researching universities and managing deadlines yourself
- You want an affordable way to get expert frameworks and resources
- You don't need direct, ongoing contact with our team to feel confident moving forward
Choose Advised if...
- You want expert input at the checkpoints that count, not full hands-on management
- You're comfortable doing the work yourself with support at key moments
- You want scheduled check-ins rather than figuring it out alone
Choose Comprehensive if...
- You want our team handling the process alongside you from start to finish
- Your academic background is unusual, borderline, or you're unsure how to position it
- You want direct access to Jackie and her team, and support that continues after you submit
- You have a more complex academic profile or application and want to discuss whether Comprehensive or a specialist advising package is the right fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which track should I choose if I'm still not sure?
What happens after I book my discovery call?
How is The UK Study Expert different from a US college counselor or general admissions consultant?
Most US college counselors don’t have deep experience with UK admissions. They’re trained in the Common App and US university systems, not UCAS and UK entry requirements. Our team has lived and worked inside the UK system for over a decade, completed degrees in the UK, and placed over 600 US students in UK universities. We also have direct relationships with admissions offices at over 150 UK universities.
What if my grades aren't perfect or my academic background is unusual?
How much money can I save by studying in the UK?
Is the discovery call free, and is there any obligation to continue?
What if I get rejected from all my choices?
When should I start the process, and how long does it take?
Do you help with student visas and housing, and what happens after I submit my applications?
Yes. Our 90-day post-submission support gives you direct access to our team Monday through Friday to help you interpret offers and understand the difference between conditional and unconditional offers. Your accepted university will walk you through the exact steps for your visa and housing, but if you run into questions along the way, we’re happy to help or point you to the right contact.
Can parents be involved, and what's included in the Personal UK Study Success Portal?
Yes, parents are welcome to join discovery calls and stay informed throughout the process. The Personal UK Study Success Portal gives your family one place to track every deadline, see what’s been completed and what’s due next, and access curated UK university information, video courses for each stage of the process, and downloadable resources like our UCAS guide and personal statement templates.
Do you offer additional support for Oxbridge, Medicine, Law, or other highly competitive courses?Â
Yes. These applications require additional strategy, admissions test guidance, and interview preparation beyond our standard tracks. Schedule a discovery call and we’ll assess your student’s profile and recommend the right level of support.
Do you have direct contacts at UK universities if something goes wrong?
Yes. Because of our direct relationships with over 150 UK universities, if something stalls or you run into an issue, whether it’s a delayed decision or paperwork stuck somewhere, we usually have a direct contact in that university’s office we can reach out to on your behalf, rather than you having to work through a general inbox.
