Meet Jackie, Founder of the UK Study Expert

Growing up in a lower-middle-class family in Philadelphia, traveling wasn’t something we could afford to do regularly, especially internationally.
When considering my college options, I felt compelled to step out of my comfort zone and explore a world beyond Philly.

I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Education and Fine Art at Aberystwyth University in Wales, and at 22, I completed my master’s degree in Education, Leadership and Management at the University of Roehampton in London.

Now, my goal is to be the bridge between students, families, and counselors to UK universities—and over the past 10 years, my team and I have helped 600 students study in the UK through our direct partnerships with 150+ universities.

During the call, we’ll review your academic profile together, identify which UK universities would be the best match for your situation, and map out your exact pathway to studying abroad. Most US college counselors simply do not have deep experience with UK admissions. They are trained in the Common App and US university systems, not UCAS and UK entry requirements. Our team has lived and worked inside the UK system for over a decade, completed degrees in the UK, and successfully placed over 600 US students in UK universities. This specialized expertise means we know exactly what UK admissions officers are looking for and how to position your application for success.

Absolutely. The UK Study Accelerator Program is designed specifically for US students and families who are unfamiliar with the UK admissions process. We guide you through every step, from understanding how your US qualifications translate to UK requirements, to building your university list, to submitting your UCAS application. You do not need any prior knowledge of the UK system to succeed with our program.

Most students can get accepted into their dream UK university in as little as 90 days when working with our program. The exact timeline depends on your starting point and application deadlines, but our process is designed to compress months of confusing research and trial-and-error into a streamlined, efficient pathway. We keep you on track with deadlines and next steps through your Personal UK Study Success Portal.

We have handled virtually every type of student case over the past decade, from high-achievers aiming for top-ranking schools to transfers and non-traditional applicants. Our University Partnership Network gives us direct access to admissions officers at over 150 UK universities. If your academic background is unusual or your grades fall slightly short, we can contact them directly to clarify your eligibility or advocate on your behalf, often turning borderline cases into successful outcomes.

We create your match list based on a thorough review of your transcript, GPA, AP and IB courses, test scores, college credits, subject interests, and budget. Using our direct knowledge of which institutions work best for and are supportive of US students, we identify universities where you have a strong chance of admission. This is not based on rankings alone but on real acceptance probability and fit for your specific profile.

Through the UCAS system, you can apply to a maximum of five universities or courses. Because of this limit, picking the wrong mix can cost you an entire application cycle. We walk you through your shortlist and help you refine your choices so your top 5 is both ambitious and realistic, with two reach schools, two solid matches, and one fallback option.

This is where many students feel most stressed and unsupported. With our 90 Day Post-Submission Ongoing Support, you have direct access to our team Monday through Friday to help you interpret offers, understand conditional vs. unconditional offers, resolve unexpected issues like missing conditions, and guide your visa and housing next steps. We can also reach out to universities directly and advocate for you when issues arise.

Yes. Our 90 Day Post-Submission Ongoing Support includes guidance on student visa applications and housing so you can plan your move to the UK without feeling overwhelmed or alone. We walk you through the process and answer your questions so you know exactly what to do at each step.

Our entire process is designed to minimize this risk. We review your academic profile to identify where you have a strong chance of admission, build a strategic university list with reach, match, and fallback options, and refine every part of your application to meet UK standards. Our advocacy relationships with over 150 universities also help turn borderline cases into successful outcomes. The families who work with us have a significantly higher acceptance rate than those who navigate the process alone.

Many students save over $50,000 on their degree by studying in the UK. UK bachelor’s degrees are typically three years instead of four, which means one less year of tuition and living costs plus the ability to start your full-time career a year earlier. Combined with lower tuition at many UK universities compared to US private institutions, the savings can be substantial.

Yes, 100%. The discovery call is a completely free, no-strings-attached conversation where we review your academic profile, identify which UK universities would be the best match for your situation, and map out your exact pathway to studying abroad. If the program is not the right fit for you, you will know within 30 minutes with zero pressure. There is no cost and no obligation to move forward.

That is exactly what the discovery call is for. During our conversation, we will review your goals, academic background, and situation to help you understand whether studying in the UK makes sense for you. You will get clarity on your options and a realistic picture of what the process would look like, so you can make an informed decision without guessing.

UK application deadlines vary depending on the university and course, but popular courses fill up quickly and spaces for international students are limited. The earlier you start, the more options you have and the more time we have to refine your application. Every month you wait is a month closer to deadlines and a month where other students are already making their plans to study abroad. We recommend booking your discovery call as soon as possible so we can map out your timeline together.

Our program is built specifically for US students who want to study in the UK. We have over 10 years of experience inside the UK admissions system, have successfully placed over 600 US students in UK universities, and have direct relationships with admissions offices at over 150 UK universities. This combination of specialized expertise, proven track record, and insider access gives you advantages that general admissions consultants simply cannot provide.

Absolutely. We understand that studying abroad is a family decision. Parents are welcome to join discovery calls and stay informed throughout the process. Our Personal UK Study Success Portal gives families a clear view of deadlines, next steps, and progress so everyone knows exactly where things stand at all times.

Your private online portal gives you one place to track every deadline, upload documents, and understand your exact next steps. You will see what has been completed, what is due next, and have a clear view of upcoming deadlines so nothing falls through the cracks. The portal also includes curated information about different UK universities, video courses walking you through each stage of the UK study journey, and downloadable resources like our UCAS completion guide and personal statement templates designed specifically for US applicants.

No problem at all. If you’re still exploring your options, we have two free resources to help you get started with zero commitment. First, take our free 90-second quiz to discover your top 5 UK university matches based on your academic profile and goals. It’s a quick way to see which UK universities could be a great fit for you before making any decisions. Second, you’re welcome to join the UK Study Society Private Community completely free, where you can connect with other US students and families considering UK study, attend live university events, and get your questions answered by experts and peers who know the UK system. Both resources are designed to help you explore whether studying in the UK is right for you—on your own timeline and with no pressure.

Visiting Wales and Welsh Scholarships

This past month, I had the privilege and opportunity to attend the Welsh Counselor Tour hosted by Study in Wales. Roughly 30 US college counselors were invited to explore a variety of Welsh universities throughout Wales.

Study in Wales is the sector of Global Wales that champion’s the promotion of Welsh universities to international students and high school counselors. These organizations advocate the variety of Welsh universities and funding opportunities to students and counselors that may have never had the consideration or opportunity in the past.

During the Study in Wales tour, we were split into two groups to visit the following universities:

Aberystwyth University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff University, University of Wales Trinity St. David, Wrexham Glyndwr University, University of South Wales, Swansea University and Bangor University.

Not only did we tour the campuses, Study in Wales organized a special evening reception at the Royal Welsh College of Drama and Music and a Cultural Day to explore Wales and learn more about the Welsh language, culture and heritage. We stayed at the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa, and visited Harlech Castle, and Portmeirion where we had afternoon tea. Our guides, Robert Alexander and Emma Fuller, did a great job of organizing and answering our questions along the way.

Wales may be small, but they have a variety of university options and degrees that are for every type of student. The cost of living is an attractive feature along with funding opportunities that are offered. Major funding opportunities that Americans should keep their eye on are The Global Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, Global Wales Fulbright Scholarship, Global Wales Gilman Scholarship, and the Aberystwyth University Accommodation Award. In addition, Taith is a Welsh funding opportunity that could be beneficial for a variety of programmes and exchanges. It is not a scholarship but it can support funding for students interested in studying abroad, counselors, teachers, researchers, community colleges and universities.

The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship programme offers scholarships worth up to £10,000 – to study a full-time masters programme in Wales. The scholarships are available to students from Vietnam, India, USA, Canada and countries of the European Union. This prestigious scheme is the first scholarship of its kind in Wales and is funded by the Global Wales Programme. The deadline is usually the end of May and to be awarded in September.

The Global Wales Fulbright Scholarship covers the first year of any master’s programme offered by a participating Welsh University. The Welsh Government, Global Wales partners, and the Welsh universities have partnered with the Fulbright Commission to provide one master’s degree scholarship to study at one of the participating Welsh Universities, in any field.

The Global Wales Gilman Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship programme for high-achieving students in the United States who wish to study in Wales. Award holders receive a study grant of up to $5,000 USD, to be used toward tuition, housing, travel, and related costs for up to one academic year. This award enables outstanding American students of limited financial means to study overseas for up to one academic year as part of their undergraduate studies. Interested students are welcome to contact their campus study abroad office or visit the Gilman Scholarship website. Application opens in August. The deadline runs until early October.

One scholarship that is very unique in the sector is the Aberystwyth University Accommodation Award. Aberystwyth University is offering undergraduate and graduate international students free housing on the several accommodation options to choose from. Free accommodation spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  If there are no free spaces left, you will be sent an offer for a discounted rate in your other hall of choice.

Finally, I recommend counselors look into the Taith programme that Wales is running. Taith is an all-Wales international learning exchange programme with a £65 million investment by the Welsh Government. It is focused on promoting international exchanges to support Welsh learners broaden their horizons and instill confidence in their young learners.

Here are a few ideas on how US counselors or schools can take advantage of Taith’s funding:

  1. High school, community college and university students could attend an international exchange semester in Wales. There is reciprocal funding available too! Staff who are chaperoning high school students are also eligible for funding.

  2. Teachers and youth workers could teach or counsel Welsh students on academics or mental health support and vice versa.

  3. Research exchange and university collaborations

These opportunities are great for supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Students can be funded for as little as two weeks! Funding levels depend on the level of the partnership. To learn more about Taith, you can reach out to one of the team members on their website or you can email Rob from Study in Wales.

If none of these scholarships apply to you, don’t forget that all of these Welsh universities accept FAFSA. Students can apply and use federal funding to study in Wales to fund their degree.

Having studied and completed my Bachelor’s degree at Aberystwyth, I am very familiar with Wales, but attending this tour reignited the love I have for Wales while giving me a deeper understanding of the academics, heritage, and offerings.

If you are a student or counselor and are looking for more information about studying in Wales, I recommend connecting to Study in Wales to learn more. You can also check out more information on the universities and blogs on Wales on our website.
